Interview Date(s):
4th October 2018
Start Date:
Employment with Outlook South West will begin in December 2018. Successful (KSA) candidates will need to be available to attend the KSA Tutorial at Exeter in early November 2018.

The course is aimed at mental health professionals who have had some experience in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and who wish to continue to work in a mental health environment.

The post holder will be an experienced individual who will be taking on an additional training role within the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) programme. The post holder will work within the IAPT service providing high intensity interventions whilst undertaking a programme of training for this role. This intensive training post will equip the post holder to provide a cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) service to clients with problems such as depression and anxiety disorders for which CBT is demonstrated to be clinically effective.

Applicants who do not have a core professional qualification are required to produce a full and complete KSA portfolio, to be submitted at interview. The successful candidates will be offered a place subject to the marking outcome, which will confirm that the Portfolio meets the KSA Criteria.  Please find the relevant documented guidelines and instructions for KSA portfolio on our website at, along with an overview of the KSA recruitment requirements and process. We are including the documents with the pack (on our website) at this stage as this is an extensive piece of work to be fully completed by the time of interview.

The university anticipate that applicants who have been considering applying for HI Training would already have their KSA portfolios underway. This should help to ensure that adequate time is allowed for completion of the full KSA portfolio and provides applicants time to read the 'Tips for Candidates' document along with the BABCP guidelines to avoid delay or disappointment.

Please note that PWPs cannot be recruited to HI posts or as HI IAPT trainees until 2 years post PWP qualification. These 2 years of practice commence only at the date of confirmation of the full PWP qualification by the University, not at the end of the teaching timetable. This standard is monitored nationally by the BABCP.

On successful completion of CBT training Outlook South West require employees to remain in a CBT role for a minimum of 12 months following the training, to consolidate learning. Should the employee choose to leave before this time, the full cost of training (including associated expenses) should be repaid in full.

To apply please complete the application form via NHS JOBS, evidencing where possible the skills and experience you have which meet the criteria outlined in the person specification.

Please see the job description and person specification attached for full details of the essential criteria. Further supporting documents also need to be referred to directly in your application. In addition to this, all applicants are required to provide a supporting statement on their application form addressing the following: Please provide a brief statement in support of your application for the post of IAPT HI trainee with reference to the NHS Values in accordance with The NHS Constitution. When completing this section, please directly address the service user.
